As his team slumped to a second straight defeat, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir lamented that they have failed to click as unit in the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament. Kolkata last night lost to South Australia Redbacks by 19 runs while chasing a very stiff target of 189. They had lost the opening clash against Somerset by five wickets.
Gambhir said they played well in patches and fielding particularly was found wanting."If we could have taken the catches, they would not have got 188. It is part and parcel of the game. But these small things can hurt you. I think we did not click as a team. Sometimes, we batted well or bowled well,"Gambhir said at the post-match press conference."When you have to win against a good opposition, you need to click as a team. The batting and bowling have to complement each other. We have not done that in the competition. we have two more games, hopefully we can try hard in the coming two games,"the left-handed batsman added. Kolkata would need a miracle of sorts to make the cut for the semifinals as not only they have to win the remaining games by a good margin but also hope that some other results go in their favour. But Gambhir refused to be pessimistic."We have two more games. It is not over completely. When you are playing professional sport, each game is important, so we want to try and win games. Whether we qualify for semifinals or not, it is irrelevant. It is about winning games, so we would go out there, try and give out 100 per cent and try and win games,"he said.
